So much for that pipe dream.Ĩ/10 ~ and if I ever say, “I am immune to nostalgia,” feel free to call me on it.What can you say about this game? Not a strict remake, not an entirely new game. And the critics thought they were okay at best.

Sure, “James Bond” looks different, but he’s still “James Bond.” It could have been an acceptable way to share the nostalgia with the next generation. Personally, I think video games could have been an excellent medium for retelling the James Bond stories the last few generations held. Video game character, now, that’s a different story. I’ll spare you the essay-long explanation, but it basically boils down to the fact that he’s a flat, uninteresting character, with interests and goals so bland and generic that they fall short of being anything substantial.Īccordingly, these traits make him a terrible movie character. I should mention here that it’s odd that I liked this game, since I really don’t care that much for James Bond. The game follows roughly the same plot as the N64 game of the same name, which follows roughly the same plot as the movie of the same name, which…was based on a book that I haven’t read, but I assume it follows roughly the same plot. Plus, GoldenEye was made by Activision, so what did you expect? It was-as far as I can recall-one of the first FPS games I owned. Meaning while most kids my age were plugging through Black Ops, I was sitting contentedly with GoldenEye 007 for the Wii. It was literally “shovelware”, “bad ports”, and “ Dead Space: Extraction.”) (Not that the M-rated Wii games were that good, so I’ve been told. Of course, I was limited-by age and by keeping the console in a public space-to not having any M-rated games. The LEGO games were my bread-and-butter for a long time, but I branched out. And, of course, I had a lot of games for it. Things like playing tin whistle, the theme from Jurassic World, the ending song for Adventure Time, the first Avengers movie, and the stack of old Wii games that I accumulated and cycled through before getting the Wii U.īecause, yeah. I had this big long explanation worked up about how I was immune to all nostalgia for a long list of reasons, but then I bumped into a small handful of things that can take my brain to happier, better times. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my great discovery this week that I am not immune to nostalgia.
